This policy explains how AnonDrift handles account data, session data, cookies, local storage, moderation data, and support requests.
What We Collect
We collect what is needed to operate the service: account email, username, password hash, chat metadata, group and direct message content, interest tags you choose to add, support submissions, moderation records, and technical logs. Technical logs include your IP address, approximate location derived from it, browser user agent, and connection timestamps, which we use for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and debugging. Guest sessions use temporary identifiers and reserved nicknames rather than an account.
Anonymous to Other Users, Not to the Platform
AnonDrift is anonymous between users: the person you chat with is not shown your email or IP address. It is not anonymous to the platform. We can associate a session with an IP address and connection metadata in order to enforce these rules and respond to abuse.
Automated Safety Screening
Messages are delivered first and may then be screened automatically for content such as harassment, threats, self-harm, and sexual content involving minors. Screening uses the OpenAI moderation service, which means the text of a screened message is transmitted to OpenAI for classification, including to servers outside your country. Automated screening is a safety measure and may not detect all harmful content. Where a message is flagged, its text is retained in our moderation records so the report can be reviewed.
Service Providers
We rely on third parties to run the service: Google Cloud Platform for backend hosting, databases and caching; Vercel for frontend hosting; OpenAI for automated safety screening; and Brevo for transactional email such as verification messages. Advertising, where shown, is served by third-party ad networks. These providers process data on our behalf or in their own right under their own policies, and some are located outside your country.
Cookies and Local Storage
AnonDrift uses cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, preserve session state, restore chat state, store consent state, and support live application behaviour. Where advertising is shown, third-party ad networks may set their own cookies and identifiers to measure and select advertising. Some features will not work if these are disabled.
How We Use Data
We use data to provide chat features, secure accounts, reduce abuse, moderate harmful activity, investigate bugs, respond to reports, comply with legal obligations, and improve service quality. Interest tags you add are used as advertising and relevance signals only; they are not shown to other users and do not affect who you are matched with.
How Long We Keep Things
Retention differs by feature. Random chat history is held in temporary cache storage and expires about one hour after the conversation. Group messages are deleted after 30 days. Direct messages between accepted friends are kept until the conversation or account is deleted. Moderation records, including the text of a flagged message, and technical logs are kept for safety and abuse prevention. Account records are kept while the account exists.
Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We share data with the service providers listed above so the service can run. We may disclose information if required by law, to protect users or the service, to investigate abuse, or to respond to valid legal process.
Age and Sensitive Information
AnonDrift is for users aged 18 and over and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18; if we become aware that we have, we will remove the account and its data. Do not share personal details such as your real name, address, phone number, photographs, or social accounts with strangers through the service.
Your Choices
You can stop using the service, log out, add or remove interest tags, contact support, and where available update or delete account information. Browser settings can also control cookies and local storage, though core features may stop working.
Policy Updates
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Continued use of the service after publication of changes means you accept the updated policy.
